How manufacturers that deliver information devices into the world should face the responsibility they are given by society is an important question. Through cutting-edge technology, we see continual evolution not just in businesses but also in the daily lives of individuals. However, in the process of this evolution, we humans have created a great burden on the earth’s environment. Now we have finally arrived at a universal realization of what the ecology means. However, we at Kyocera Mita were among the first to consider the importance of the environment, and that facing such importance is our social responsibility as a company. In 1992, we launched a revolutionary type of laser printer that did not require replacement of the drum or cartridge containing waste parts during its life cycle, and only required toner replacement. We called that printer ECOSYS. The name was our way of conveying that the product offered a higher-level combination of economy, ecology, and system. The ECOSYS long-lasting technology, a Kyocera Mita exclusive, achieved several important goals: it reduced waste products, provided economic value by minimizing the total cost of ownership (TCO), and lessened the impact on the environment. We expanded these ideas not just to the life cycle of all of our products, but also to our business activities as a whole, as we work to lessen our overall burden on the environment.
